Tucked into Chicago’s historic Prairie District, Prairie East Townhome Association is an intimate community of 18 townhomes at the southeast corner of Cullerton and Prairie in the heart of the South Loop.
Few places in Chicago carry the sense of history found here. Long before the neighborhood became one of the city's most fashionable addresses, Prairie Avenue followed an early trail connecting Fort Dearborn with the frontier beyond Chicago. The area witnessed the Battle of Fort Dearborn in 1812 and, generations later, became home to some of the city's most prominent families.
By the late 19th century, Prairie Avenue had become Chicago's legendary “Millionaire's Row,” lined with grand residences designed by some of the era's most celebrated architects. The neighborhood was home to figures such as Marshall Field, George Pullman, Philip Armour, and John J. Glessner. Today, the surviving architecture offers a remarkable connection to that era and to the people who helped shape Chicago.
That history is not simply something to visit—it is part of the neighborhood we call home. The Prairie Avenue Historic District is recognized as both a Chicago Landmark and a National Register Historic District, preserving an important chapter of the city's architectural and cultural story.
And yet Prairie East is very much a part of present-day Chicago. The lakefront and Burnham Harbor are nearby, along with Soldier Field, Wintrust Arena, McCormick Place, museums, parks, restaurants, and everything that makes the South Loop such a vibrant place to live.
